We all are living in a period of overpowered influence, benighted and
great bewilderment, with a maximum exposure. In fact, we are dazzled and
befuddled by mundane success of Non-Muslims. At the same time many of us
deviating from Qur'an and Sunnah guidance, for which it is essential for
all of us to return to it immediately with patience (sabr) and
gratefulness (Shukr), because it is not congruous for us to be in this
Satanic influence, but only put complete trust in Allah Karim (Tawakkul)
and be a true slave of Allah (Ubudiyyah), and practice Islam and its
guidance. Remember, Islam do not need anyone, we are in need of Islam.
Our beloved Messenger (SWS) said and advised: Whoever wishes to be the
strongest among men, let him put his complete trust in Allah, patience
enables a man to face and deal hardship with grace and dignity and
accept period of ease without being haughty. As Allah says: Verily,
along with every hardship is relief. Verily, along with every hardship
is relief (i.e. there is one hardship with two relieves, so one hardship
cannot overcome two relieves). Surat As-Sharh-94: 5-6. Fact is,
our actual way of life is Islam only and there is no any other way,
Period. A Muslim can have the best quality and characteristics are
patience and gratefulness, for the sake of Allah. Enduring what he or
she dislikes with a complete acceptance and full submission; as Allah
says: is ordained for you (Muslims) though you dislike it, and it may be
that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing
which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know. Surah
Al-Baqarah-2: 216. Our Messenger (SWS) said: Whosoever refrains from
asking, Allah will grant him independence; and whosoever seeks
self-sufficiency, Allah will make him self-sufficient. And whosoever
would be patient, Allah will give him patience; and no one is granted a
gift better and more comprehensive than patience. Sahih Al-Bukhari.
As a matter of fact, according to many of the scholars, a half of Iman
(faith) is Patience and the other half is Gratefulness, Allah Karim has
indicated about patience about ninety times and gratefulness more than
25 times in Qur'an. Insha-Allah I will indicate a several of them, with
a several related Ahadith that are major, to keep this topic concise.
Some of the Noble Companions of the Messenger (SWS) said: We did not
consider the faith of a man to be faith if he did not have patience with
harm.
As Allah says: Verily, in this are signs for every patient, grateful
(person). Surah Luqman-31: 31; and others say in 14:5; 34:19 and
42:33(please see in the Qur'an). Said reported that he asked the
Messenger (SWS) who among mankind had the most trials and he Messenger (SWS)
replied, The Prophets, then those most like them and then those most
like them. Man is tested according to the level of his faith. If his
faith is firm, his trials increase in severity, and if there is weakness
in his faith, he will be tried accordingly. Sahih Sunan Tirmithee and
Ibn Majah. Consequently, Allah says/quotes Prophet Yaqub (Jacob)
in Surah Yusuf- 12:67:
Verily, the decision rests only with Allah. In Him, I put my trust and
let all those that trust, put their trust in Him. Narrated Ibn Abbas
(RA) Allah's Messenger (SWS) said: Seventy thousand people of my
followers will enter Paradise without account, and they are those who do
not practise Ar-Ruqyya (Divine Speech recited as a means of curing
disease; It is a kind of treatment, i.e. to recite Surat Al-Fatihah or
any other Surah of the Qur'an and then blow one's breath with saliva
over a sick person's body part), and do not see an evil omen in things,
and put their trust in their Lord. Sahih Al-Bukhari.
In all situations and in straitned circumstances, a Muslim must seek the
help of Allah only, with tolerance, and remembering Him for His promise
and reward, of course, those who act obediently and dutiful to Him
consistently. Allah has the abundance of rewards and pleasures
prepared for those and believers who are obedience and grievous
punishment that Allah warned of and prepared for those and disbelievers
who disobey Allah and the Messenger (SWS). Nevertheless, what Allah has
decreed for him/her should bear tolerance with harm, is a great quality
of the true believers and sign of the righteous and attain Allah's
Pleasure, and this is the only goal of all true believers supposed to
have it and it will be the ultimate success in the Hereafter Insha-Allah.
Since patience is one of the great quality and character and incessantly
practised with strive, he/she must seek patience, remembering the
promised reward of Allah.
As Allah says: O you believe! Endure and be more patient (than your
enemy), and guard (your territory by stationing army units permanently
at the places from where the enemy can attack you), and fear Allah, so
that you may be successful. Surah Al-Imran-3: 200.
And seek help in patience and the prayer. Surah Al-Baqarah-2: 40.
And endure you patiently (O Muhammad (SWS), your patience is not but
from Allah. Surah An-Nahl-16:127
And bear with patience whatever befalls you. Verily, these are some of
the important commandments (ordered by Allah with no exemption). Surah
Luqman-3:17
O you believe! Seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer). Truly,
Allah is with As-Sabirun (the patient). Surah Baqarah-2:153.
And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of
wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sabirun (the
patient). Surah Al-Baqarah-2:155.
Only those who are patient shall receive their reward in full, without
reckoning. Surah Az-Zumar-39:10.
Allah's Messenger said:
Allah the Glorious and Exalted said: When I afflict My Servant in his
two dear things (i.e., his eyes), and he endures patiently, I shall
compensate them with Paradise. Sahih Al-Bukhari.
Anyone for whom Allah intends good, He makes him suffer some affliction.
Sahih Al-Bukhari.
Verily, the greater reward comes with the greater affliction. When Allah
loves a people, He will subject them to the trials, if one pleases Him,
Allah pleases him too, and if he is impatient with Him, Allah will be
impatient with him too. At-Tirmithi and Ibn Majah. |
